The First Set-Up

PLEASE NOTE: i-shot has evolved! This is the old version of my photoblog - it now lives over at myglasseye.net. Thank you for visiting me at i-shot, but please bookmark the new site and let me know what you think! Many thanks, Owen...

Tonight's shoot was predominantly covering the driving scenes. In the car is the focus puller on the left (who set the focus and then let the driver take his place when the camera rolled), the DOP on the right, the director (in the back seat, obscured by the DOP, clutching a clamshell-style LCD monitor) and the actress centre-frame waiting for the lighting to be set (which was gaffertaped to the ceiling of the car just behind above the driver).

For the shots of exactly the same scene focussing on the driver, then his accomplice, they had to re-rig all the lighting, re-set the camera focus, re-shuffle the seating positions in the car, and then go for a drive around the same route.

And now you know how they do it, kind of takes all the magic out of the movies, doesn't it? ;)
